Morton visit Kilmarnock for the highlight match of Group H. These two clubs have not met since August 25th, 2009, when Killie knocked Morton out of the League Cup of that year.
Currently, Morton sit atop Group H. But that's just because they've played one more game than Kilmarnock, who are still favourites to win the group. Morton's job is to finish among the top four second-place clubs, which means scraping for every point. It would be good to get a point off Killie, to make up for the one Morton lost to Albion Rovers.
Morton wear blue and white hoops. Kilmarnock wear blue and white stripes. But it hasn't always been so. Sometimes Morton have worn stripes, and sometimes Killie have worn hoops. Have they ever shown up in the same kit? Sounds like a job for Historical Football Kits:

Which SPFL teams wear blue? Cowdenbeath, Dundee, Falkirk, Forfar, Morton, Inverness CT, Kilmarnock, Montrose, Peterhead, Queen of the South, Raith, Rangers, Ross County, St Johnstone, Stranraer. Which SPFL teams wear green? Celtic, Hibs. Which team has never worn green? Greenock.
What was Morton's worst showing in the League Cup? In the years when the League Cup was strictly a knockout tournament, a bad showing meant going out in Round One. But in the group stage era, it meant sticking around for as many as six losses. Did Morton ever do that? Yes, in 1959-60, Group 8. They lost to Alloa, Cowdenbeath, St Johnstone, then Alloa, Cowdenbeath, and St Johnstone again. They scored 6 goals, and allowed 17. And in the middle of that they played their first league match and lost 3 - 1 . . . to East Stirlingshire.
Declan McManus has signed with Raith Rovers.
[Morton win 0 - 2. Goals by Oliver and Quitongo. Group H now:
Morton have Tuesday off, which will allow the others to gain ground on them. But as Albion and Killie have yet to play each other, they cannot both finish with 9 points.]

The International Champions Cup begins today. What is the International Champions Cup? It's a world tour of big European clubs looking to turn brand recognition into money, money, money. This is the third edition. Today Celtic play Leicester City in Glasgow. [1 - 1. Leicester win on penalty kicks.]
Eiga Monogatari is an account of Heian court life written during the Kamakura period, a century or two after the events recorded. Enough change had occurred in fashions that the anonymous author felt compelled to observe:
When one hears tales of earlier days, one can scarcely believe that ladies went about in public dressed in so few layers of clothing and with so little padding in their garments. One wonders how they managed to keep warm even at home, since ladies nowadays are always suffering from ailments caused by the weather, though they pile on so many layers that they are in danger of looking like frumps. But that was the fashion, and we must suppose that even a Junior Consort or Empress wore only a fraction of what we would consider an adequate costume.

The city of Oxyrhynchus in Egypt is the site of the biggest haul of ancient papyrus yet found, but it has also thrown up some other things -- like these socks. They were knit using a one-needle technique later found in Vikings burials. They have a split toe so they can be worn with sandals. You can see them at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Where does the name Cappielow come from? Scholars tend to agree it's from the Medieval Norse kappe (cape) + lov (law). Medieval Norwegians were under strict orders to keep their hoods up while in Greenock, owing to the risk of pneumonia brought about by exposure to the constant rain. Today, if you stop for a couple of pints before the match you're instructed to remove your hood, even at the Norseman Bar. Memories of the Vikings are that strong.
Stirling Albion visit Cappielow.
Greenock Morton and Stirling Albion have seen quite a lot of each other in the 21st Century. They've played together in the First Division (2007-08, 2010-11), Second Division (2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07) and the Third Division (2002-03). During the same period they've met twice in the Challenge Cup, Morton winning both encounters.
Morton enter today's play in fifth place with four wins and four losses. They have not let go of a point at home, but have only one win away. Stirling currently hold ninth place, have not yet won at home, but are break-even on the road. It's a strong home team versus a pretty good road team.
Today's kick off is two hours early to allow everyone to run home and watch Scotland versus Georgia. [Scotland win 1 - 0.]
Don't know if you've looked at the Championship table lately, but Hamilton Academical are top club in Scotland. 2014-15 could turn out to be their Greatest Moment.
[Morton win 2 - 0. Goals by Barrowman and McNeil. Morton move up to third place.]
Tomorrow Grulla Morioka visit Ryūkyū. [Postponed due to Typhoon Vongfong.]
