Sir George Frampton's statue of Queen Victoria, on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee, was unveiled March 19th, 1901, in Calcutta, a couple of months after her death, and is now minded by that dog. Source.
It's Prešeren Day, on which Slovenians mark the death in 1849 of their national poet France Prešeren, and celebrate Slovenian culture. This statue is in Kranj, but there's a much larger monument in Ljubljana.

There is a long tradition in Germany of wooden carving, and an equally long folk practice of driving iron nails into trees for good luck. The First World War propaganda machine put these two together in the form of a massive wooden statue of Hindenburg in Berlin's Königsplatz, inviting patriotic Germans to drive iron nails into it.
