Dundee United finished both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons in third place, and are currently third. They finished third in the Premier Division four years in a row from 1983-84 to 1986-87.

But if Morton and ICT win today, the Tangerines will drop into fourth place.

The transfer window has closed. Morton engaged in a moderate amount of activity (see below). A really horrible rumour about Michael Tidser going to Falkirk failed to pan out. Morton have signed 19-year-old midfielder Keelan O'Connell on loan from Bournemouth, and winger Greg Kiltie on loan from Kilmarnock. Also goalkeeper Brendan Pearson, ex of South Shields FC.

Manageria: Neil Lennon has left Hibs. Falkirk have been fined £60,000 in the McKinnon affair, but that money goes to the SFA. The club will have to pursue the guilty in court.

1928-29: Morton visited Arthurlie and won 1 - 2. This was Morton's last Scottish League game against Arthurlie.

Cowlairs versus Dumbarton. These two were founding members of the SFL and played two league games in 1890-91, a 1 - 1 draw followed by a 6 - 1 Dumbarton win.

Dundee United vs Dundee FC, the long view. These neighbours first met in the Scottish League in 1910-11 while United were called Dundee Hibernian. United did not finish higher than Dundee FC in the league table until 1960-61, giving the Dark Blues a tremendous statistical advantage. Then United finished higher every year from 1974-75 to 1997-98. But the Dundee FC are still ahead. At this point the Tangerines would have to finish higher than the Dark Blues each of the next 13 years to draw even with them. HFX Wanderers have signed an agreement of cooperation with Soccer Nova Scotia. The club gets to use the field at Clayton Park for its training camp. The NSSL Premiership gets the use of the Wanderers Ground for its playoffs. And the NSSL agrees not to schedule games opposite Wanderers' home fixtures.

The club has signed 17-year-old Scott Firth, who played for Suburban FC in the NSSL last season.

Apparently the SWFL2 clubs revolted against the new three-league structure because now a new four-league structure has been unveiled. The four sections have the overly precise names West / South West, West / Central, Southeast / Central, and North / East. West, Central, East and North would have served just as well. Morton are in West / South West, along with Annan Athletic, Clark Drive, East Kilbride Thistle, Gleniffer Thistle, Kilwinning, Mid-Annandale, Rutherglen, Stewarton United and Stranraer.

Edward the Chancellor

Apparently the only full-length statue of King Edward VIII is the one outside the Aberystwyth University Student Union, unveiled in 1923 while he was was Prince of Wales as well as Chancellor of the university. Source.

1923 Mercury Dime

From 1916 till 1945 the US dime looked like this, with a bust of Liberty on the obverse and Roman fasces on the reverse. Liberty had appeared on earlier dimes, but the addition of wings to her cap led to a popular misconception that it was a portrait of Mercury. The fasces that had once seemed a suitable emblem of republican government, now smelled of Mussolini. In 1945 the Mint replaced Winged Liberty/Mercury with Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the fasces with a torch. Source.

Prince Hirohito Visits Taiwan, 1923

Crown Prince Hirohito spent a couple of weeks in Taiwan in April 1923 inspecting things, in this case the Taiwan Grand Shrine, which he trooped around on April 17th. This was the top Shinto shrine in the colony. There's a hotel there now. Source.
