Today Greenock Morton bus it to Dingwall for a twice rescheduled match against Ross County FC. If indeed the game comes off, and assuming Ross County win the league, this could be our last opportunity in a long while to make fun of the people of Dingwall, who apparently have been wandering in the desert too long, judging by this photo of the Golden Calf, er, Bull of Dingwall. The idol is set up just outside the Tesco on Mart Road where a livestock yard used to be. Photo source. Thingvollr is Viking for Dingwall, just to give it that double whammy of heathenism. Christian folk may wish to consult Exodus, chapter 32.
The people running the SPL must be a little concerned about the number of postponed matches at Victoria Park this season. The Staggies are planning stadium upgrades that will go into motion just as soon as they win the division, and surely one of those is going to have to be subterranean heating to keep the pitch playable. Of course summer football would also fix that problem, but what do you want to bet Ross County become staunch opponents of that change just as soon as they've paid for those heating pipes. (See here for a informed discussion of the pros and cons of under soil heating systems.)
If Ross County win promotion, and Inverness CT avoid demotion, next year will be only the second time since 1998-99 that the First Division has been without a Highland club. (The other was 2007-08.) That'll save the First Division clubs a lot of mileage.
The clocks have changed here but not there, so right now Nova Scotia is only three hours away from Scotland. I feel I should have just gone to the game.
Also today, Dundee v Ayr. If Ayr win and Morton lose, Morton will drop to eighth place.
[Oh!!! Morton tie it up in the dying seconds! 2 - 2 FT. Goals by Campbell and Weatherson. Dundee v Ayr was postponed again.]
