The Scottish football year reaches its climax this weekend with the playing of the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park. The finalists are Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian FC. The two Edinburgh clubs have not met in the Cup final since 1896, when Hearts won 2 - 0. Hearts last won the Cup in 2006. Hibs have not won it since 1902. Read about it in the Scotsman.
One hundred years ago in 1912 the finalists were Celtic and Clyde. Celtic won 2 - 0. Celtic were heavy favourites to win the Cup this year, but were ousted by Hearts in the semis. Clyde, who are now wallowing in the Third Division, were eliminated by Montrose in the second round.
The SFL promotion playoffs wrap up this weekend too. Airdrie meet Dumbarton for a spot in the First Division. Albion Rovers attempt to defend their position in the Second Division from Stranraer.
