Morton visit Dudgeon Park for a friendly against Highland League champions Brora Rangers.
You'll recall that Brora failed to earn promotion to League Two in May after suffering a second leg, second half collapse against Montrose in the pyramid playoffs. That, coupled with the club chairman's earlier statement about not wanting promotion, coupled with the absence of several of the team's best players in the final game, have left a bad odour around the place. Brora supporters would obviously like to see the club win a third straight Highland League championship. But if the team are to go on to throw playoff games to avoid promotion it can only earn the ill will of the supporters, the Lowland League, and the Powers That Be at Hampden.
Then again, Morton are not free of suspicion in this regard. Before that make-or-break match against Partick Thistle on April 10th, 2013 chairman Douglas Rae made some public remarks about how promotion had ruined Hamilton Academical.
[Morton win 0 - 1 on a goal by McCluskey.]
It's the beginning of the second stage of the J League season. Montedio Yamagata visit Yokohama F. Marinos. [1 - 1.]
On Monday at Cappielow Morton will play a Celtic XI in a testimonial game in honour of longtime kit man Andy Bryan. "Celtic XI" probably means a bunch of development league players. [Celtic win 1 - 3. Morton goal by Orr.]
