Japan still has the original handwritten diary of Fujiwara no Michinagi, the de facto ruler of the country 1000 years ago. Unesco. If you ask me there's a crying need for an English translation of Midō Kanpakuki, as it's called, to go along with Ōkagami and Eiga monogatari. There was a seminar on translating it at the University of Heidelberg in 2014.
