Have the four Scottish Cup quarter-final matches ever resulted in four replays? Yes. In 1973-74, all four matches went to replays. In 1975-76, two of the matches went to replays and then to second replays. Since then, the four quarterfinal matches have gone to three replays twice, in 2007-08 and 2010-11.

*I can't help thinking there's some political history encoded in these club names.
The Japan Football League starts tomorrow. The JFL was once the top league in Japan, but the creation of the J League and its growth into three divisions has left the JFL as the fourth tier. The league plays an apertura/clausura format followed by a championship in the form of semi-finals and finals. The league winner must have the necessary license to gain promotion to J3.
This season I'm going to follow the Aomori rivals: ReinMeer Aomori and Vanraure Hachinohe. They both start the season on the road because it's still too wintry for soccer in Aomori. Tomorrow:
Tokyo Musashino City [1 - 2] Vanraure Hachinohe
Honda FC [3 - 1] ReinMeer Aomori
Honda FC is a fascinating survival of Showa era football. They're the company team of Honda Motors, who are too stingy to splash out on a J League club (unlike, say, Mitsubishi). Honda have stuck with the JFL as it has been reduced to the second, third and fourth tier, winning the league seven times. Other clubs wanting to move up to the J League have had to leapfrog Honda who are almost always in the top four of the JFL. Honda won the JFL last season and have a reserved spot in the 97th Emperor's Cup, Round One.

SATURDAY'S FOOTBALL
THIRD LANARK v QUEEN'S PARK--The Charity Cup tie between the foregoing clubs was played on Saturday afternoon, the venue being the [model?] athletic enclosure of the International Exhibition. The weather was very warm, and there was a good attendance. [smudge] The teams were:--Third Lanark--Raeside; Barr and Thomson; Cross, M'One[?] and Smith; Johnstone and Sloan; Cross jnr, Lynn and Aitchison. Queen's Park--G. C. M'Wattie; A. M. Swan and D. M'Callum; J. Ormiston jnr, J. Eadie and A. M. M'Kay; J. M'Lean and D. Wilson jnr; R. S. M'Coll, H. Dinsmore and A. M'Lean. Referee--Mr Nisbet, Cowdenbeath. M'Coll kicked off, but his pass was a bad one, and the Third, early, made headway. The weather was too warm for a dashing game and the players took matters quietly. There were several good tries at goal, but the custodians were quite safe, and at half-time the teams crossed over goalless. At the restart play was very slow for a while. The Queen's created interest in the game by stubbornly attacking the Third's goal, which had a narrow escape. Thereafter the Cathkin team played vigorously but were resolutely met at all points. The first goal fell to the Third, Smith clinching a well-placed corner by Sloan. No more goals were scored. Result--Third Lanark, 1 goal; Queen's Park, 0. The Celtic and Third are the finalists for the cup.
