Dunfermline are top of the division. The Pars had an unpromising preseason, being outscored 11 to 2 in games against Partick, Hibs and Raith. But they won their League Cup group and made it to Round Two, where Rangers beat them 6 - 0. In the Challenge Cup they have advanced to Round Three.

On this date in 1978-79 Morton travelled to Tannadice and enjoyed their first league win of the season, beating Dundee United 2 - 1. Rooney and Russell scored for Morton. The Tangerines wore orange tops, black shorts and orange socks, all with the triple Adidas stripe. The win lifted Morton to eighth place ahead of Motherwell and Hearts.
Morton visited Dundee United on this date in 1933 as well and beat them 0 - 2.
