Soseki Natsume taught middle school for a year in Matsuyama, on the island of Shikoku, and he based his novel Botchan on the experience. His books can feel like lectures sometimes, but the characters in Botchan are having none of it, and the novel bursts with schoolyard energy, and as a result it's one of his most popular. Matsuyama wants you to remember where Botchan takes place. They even named the baseball stadium after it. Source.
