The Northwest Arm Penitentiary was a federal prison located in the south end of Halifax from 1844 to 1948. It occupied a block of land whose shape can still be seen as the big bite taken out the western shoreline of Point Pleasant Park. The site is now a neighbourhood of 1950s bungalows, where one of the streets has the evocative name of Chain Rock Drive. Source.
