Cruden Hall, at the corner of Ann and Tobago Streets, as a lecture hall, cinema and nightclub, has been a part of Greenock nightlife since 1888.

Livi won the 2003-04 cup. St Johnstone made the final in 1969-70 and 1998-99 but lost both times. Renfrewshire Cup Final, Feb. 25, 1893

    ST MIRREN v. MORTON (R.C.T).--On Saturday afternoon on the ground of the Abercorn at Underwood Park, Paisley, these teams met in the final stage of the Renfrewshire Cup tie. The ground was rather hard owing to frost. There were several thousand spectators within the enclosure. The teams were,--St. Mirren--Patrick, Crawford and Mirk; Douglas, Brown, and M'Bain; Brash, Wylie, Smith, Shaw, and Dunsmore. Morton--M'Lelland, D Robertson, and Simpson; P Robertson, Bonnar, and Elliot; Dick, Oswald, Graham, Morrison, and Burns. Referee--Mr M'Nicol, Mossend Swifts. Neutral linesmen--Messrs McCallum (Dykebar) and Cockburn (Lochwinnoch). St Mirren started the game, and the Morton at once made a raid on the home goal, Dick sending the ball over. A throw-in near the St Mirren goal looked dangerous, but Shaw succeeded in clearing. Morton continued to press the home team very hard, and their breakaway runs took the St Mirren a little by surprise. A brilliant run was led off by Graham, who, aided by Oswald and Elliot, caused no end of trouble at the home end of the field. St Mirren, taking the first opportunity, visited the Morton charge in a body, but luck so far was against them, and the ball was again returned without an advantage having been gained. Great excitement prevailed amongst the spectators, as the Morton were awarded a foul at goal mouth. Elliot took the kick, and after a fierce scrimmage Morrison landed it through the goal, thus notching the first point of the game for Morton. The Westmarch men, nettled at the turn of affairs, renewed their efforts, and soon had worked their way toward M'Lelland. A stinging shot from Brown was admirably saved by that player and the ball was eventually returned to the St Mirren territory by Bonnar. A little after, as the result of a scrimmage, Morrison scored the second point for Morton. Play now grew furious, and both ends played with a will. Just before half-time Graham scored the third goal for the strangers, leaving them leading at the interval by 3 goals to their opponents nill. The second half was resumed with great spirit on both sides. The ball was kept in mid-field for a short time, but eventually the St Mirren broke away. Wylie, after rushing the ball up the field, passed it to Crawford, who narrowly missed scoring, sending it past by inches. Morton then visited the home goal, but were smartly repulsed, and the leather was again transferred to the Morton territory. Dick, with a long shot, cleared his lines, and the ball was soon spinning in front of Patrick. Striking one of the uprights, it rebounded into play, and was immediately returned by D. Robertson, but without effect. The home team, however, seemed determined to score, and lost no opportunity which occurred to them, but the Morton defence was for the time being impregnable. The play grew very fast, and a throw-in for St Mirren placed them in rather a good position. All their efforts, however, proved fruitless, and they appeared to be completely out of it. Notwithstanding they kept up a very spirited attack, and several times the strangers' goal was placed in immediate danger. Fast play was still maintained, both teams putting forth their best efforts. The shooting of the St Mirren at this stage of the game was not at all good, and although there were some narrow shaves the ball could not be got through. Towards the end of the game Brown and M'Bain put forth some fine efforts for the Saints, but luck was decidedly against the Westmarch team. As time approached the game appeared to be a forlorn hope so far as they were concerned. The game ended--Morton, 3 goals; St Mirren, 0 goals. In the evening a social meeting was held at the Glebe Hotel, Paisley, when the cup was presented to the winning club.

Ajoie visit HC Thurgau at the Eishalle Güttingersreuti in Weinfelden, Thurgau Canton, in the Swiss northeast.

Formed from three earlier clubs, HC Thurgau bill themselves as representatives of the whole canton. They wear green and yellow with a lion emblem, drawn from the cantonal coat of arms. Unfortunately this makes them look a lot like EHC Olten, and when they play GCK it's a case of lion versus lion, so taking one thing with the other they come across as a bit of a generic Swiss hockey club.

They entered the NLB in 1992, and since then they have played every season but one in the second tier.

Ajoie have made up most of their games in hand and are now in second place, five points behind Kloten. Thurgau are fifth.

What is going on in Germany?

The DEL began play December 17th with a restructured format. The 14 clubs have been divided into two geographical sections (North and South) to reduce travel, but there will be some games between teams in the opposite group. The quarterfinals will feature the top four teams in each group and will be played within the group, but the semi-finals will cross over. Think of the 1971-72 NHL.

DEL2 is carrying on with a single 14-team table. The winner will be promoted to the DEL.

The Oberliga is playing as two divisions of 13 teams each. Our guys Tilburg Trappers are currently fighting for second place in the North, quite a bit behind Hannover Scorpions.

Greenock Morton visit Tynecastle Park for a match against Heart of Midlothian. This is Morton's first visit to Hearts' park since March 26th, 1988. Hearts traveled to Cappielow last December 5th and won 0 - 2.

The last Morton player to score against Hearts was John McNeil.

Hearts are top of the Championship, but you couldn't really call them a juggernaut. So far this season they've lost to Dunfermline, Dundee and Raith Rovers in league play, to Alloa in the League Cup, and last weekend QoS held them to a draw.

Morton enter today's match in seventh place, 5 points out of last place. If Morton lose, and Arbroath and ICT win, Morton will drop to ninth place.

Morton have signed Dutch winger Justin Johnson, previously of Hamilton Academical.

With Morton and Hearts now in the same division, which SPFL club owns the longest ongoing streak without a match against Greenock Morton? Trick answer: Cove Rangers. They last played Morton in the Scottish Cup in 2004, but only joined the SPFL in 2019. Otherwise it's Montrose, who last played Morton on August 27th, 2013. Morton could play them both next year by being relegated.

Though if League One are unable to complete 18 games, there might not be relegation.

Tynecastle is the sixth-largest park in the SPFL in terms of seating, after Hampden, Celtic Park, Ibrox, Pittodrie and Easter Road. The pitch is a little narrow by UEFA standards. There is under-soil heating, but that did not prevent the postponement of Hearts' January 12th match against Dunfermline.

Today was to have been Scottish Cup, Round Four day. If the 2020-21 cup is cancelled it'll be the first time since 1909 that a Scottish Cup has been started but not finished.

They're kicking around return to play scenarios in the Highland League. If they can restart in March they may be able to complete their 15-game schedule by playing through May, and by sending last year's champions Brora to represent them if the pyramid playoffs start before the league finishes.

    At Cappielow Park, Greenock. Estimated attendance, 10,000. Teams:--Morton--Bradford; Ferrier and Ormond; Wright, Stark and M'Lean; Torrance and Gourlay; McLaughlin; Stevenson and Seymour. Heart of Midlothian--Boyd; Crossan and Currie; Briggs, Scott and Nellies; Low and Wattie; Gracie; Graham and Bryden. Referee--T. Robertson (Glasgow). From the outset Morton played with great dash, and after 20 minutes Stark scored from a free kick. Two minutes from the interval Hearts were awarded a penalty kick, but failed to equalise, Nellies shooting past. Midway through the second period, in which Morton gave the more convincing display, Gracie also failed to convert a penalty kick. Morton in the last minute of the game increased their lead, Seymour scoring from a penalty. Goalscorers:--Morton--Stark and Seymour.

This result unseated Hearts from the top position, and with only one match remaining they were unable to regain it. Celtic won the title, Hearts finished second and Morton fourth.
