On February 1st 1945 the British navy evacuated to inhabitants of the island of Sørøya in Norwegian Lappland to Scotland. But several dozen Norwegians remained behind to harass the occupying Germans, including these members of the Norges Lotteforbund, a volunteer women's organization modelled on the Finnish paramilitary Lotta Svärd.
