EHC Winterthur was founded in 1929. In 1963 they merged with EHC Veltheim to form Rot-Weiss Winterthur, but in 1980 they reverted to their original name.
Winterthur take their red and white colours from the city's coat of arms, like EHC Visp, and have a lion on their crest, like most of the league.
Both EHC Winterthur and FC Winterthur play in the second tier of their respective sports.
