Cranes versus Free Blades

Tohoku Free Blades visit East Hokkaido Cranes at Kushiro Ice Arena.

The Cranes are a continuation of Jūjō Paper Kushiro Ice Hockey Club, which was founded in 1949. In 1993 Jūjō Paper merged with Sanyō Kokusaku Pulp to form Nippon Paper, and the team was renamed Nippon Paper Cranes, accidentally creating the only origami hockey team in the world. In 2019 Nippon Paper got out of the hockey business and the team was renamed East Hokkaido Cranes, with the same rink and players as before.

Beazley Fields

Beazley Fields, off Caledonia Road in Dartmouth, was the home ground of the Nova Scotia Clippers of the Canadian Soccer League in 1991. I've never been there, too many rules.

It's the Challenge Cup, Round Three. Morton visit Links Park to face Montrose FC. These two teams met in the playoffs at the end of last season: Montrose won the first leg 2 - 1 at home, and Morton won the return leg 3 - 1 at Cappielow. Currently Montrose are sixth in League One.

Montrose got here by defeating Stirling Albion in Round Two, while Morton beat Celtic B.

Montrose's Kerr Waddell played for Morton in 2018-19. No one from Morton has played for Montrose.

Morton have sold the Love Street roof they bought from St Mirren for £50,000 twelve years ago and never installed to a scrap dealer.

Garrity has been loaned out to Annan. Oksanen has been called up by Finland. Goalkeeper Chris Wylie has left the club. He leaves with a perfect record, only ever having appeared in that Challenge Cup Round Two win over Celtic B.

Greenock Morton results for 1891-92:

Morton were a member of the Scottish Football Alliance in 1891-92. They also played in the preliminary rounds of the Scottish Cup, as well as the Renfrewshire Cup and the Greenock and District Charity Cup. And there were friendlies, some of them against other members of the Scottish Alliance. I have followed the Scottish Football Historical Archive as to which games are genuine Scottish Alliance matches, and have treated the others as friendlies.

There were three senior leagues operating in Scotland in 1891-92: the SFL, the Scottish Alliance, and the Scottish Federation. Twelve of today's SPFL clubs were in these leagues: Dumbarton, Celtic, Hearts, Rangers, Clyde and St Mirren in the SFL; Kilmarnock, Morton and Partick Thistle in the Alliance; and Albion Rovers, Falkirk and Motherwell in the Federation.

Though she wrote them during the 14th century, Lady Nijō's confessions did not emerge from an imperial storage room until 1940, so there's no body of noh, ukiyo-e or kabuki to go with them. But Caryl Churchill put Lady Nijō in her play Top Girls in 1982. Source.

Harold Wilson turns the sod at the former Caird shipyard in 1950 in hopes that someone will come along soon to finish the job. The place did eventually become the site of a Royal Bank of Scotland processing centre, which has since closed. Source. Harold Wilson was a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. (See below.)

Morton Club Together became legal owners of Greenock Morton and Cappielow Park Tuesday. The transfer was to have happened June 1st, but some unforseen problems needed to be dealt with; for example, someone else owned a corner of the property.

Kilmarnock have loaned striker Innes Cameron to Queen of the South, another Championship club. QoS will be prohibited from fielding Cameron against Killie, but if he helps QoS finish higher than Killie, there will be egg on some East Ayrshire faces.
