The Coming Winnipeg Hockeyists
The Ottawa hockey team have received a letter from Winnipeg saying that the picked Winnipeg team which is coming east expects to leave Winnipeg Feb 6, and wants to play the Ottawas here on Monday, Feb 13, and the Rebels on Tuesday 14.
The scheme so far arranged embraces matches with the following clubs:
New Fort Granites, Victorias, Torontos and Osgoode Hall, all of Toronto; Queen's College of Kingston; Ottawas and Rebels of Ottawa; Victorias of Montreal; and Quebec of Quebec. Several other matches will likely also be arranged for in Western Ontario. The Winnipegs will bring ten men. They think they have a first class lot, and say they will only play their weaker men against the teams they may meet which are not supposed to be in the first class. Some of their players' names, such as Ashe, formerly of Quebec and the Montreal Vics, are those of men who were really among the best down this way.

WINNIPEGGERS VANQUISHED
They Bow Before Ottawa's Crack Hockey Team
The Winnipeg hockey team can play good hockey. This they demonstrated at the Rideau Rink last night. But they do not know all about the game yet, a fact which they discovered at the same time.
The match last evening between them and the Ottawas resulted, as expected by all but the men from the Prairie City, who seemed confident of winning before the match, in favor of the Ottawas. The play was closer than anticipated, however, and the score, four goals to one, about tells the tale. The men from the Manitoba capital are exceptionally fast skaters and good stick handlers and understood the game pretty well, but they lack in team play, and it was in this the Ottawas showed their superiority.
Mr. P. D. Ross was referee, Messrs. P. D. Bentley and C. H. Beckett umpires, and the Winnipeg team -- Stowe, Higginbotham, Anderson, Armitage, Girdlesleeve, Howard and McDonald.
Howard showed himself to be one of the fastest forwards playing the game.
Morel and Russell played their positions to perfection, while Weld. Young showed his lacrosse training on how to stop a home player to advantage.
At 4:30 this afternoon the visitors play the Rebels. The team of the latter will be Lay, Jenkins, Grant, Kilcoursie, Ross, Watters and Adamson.

The Rebels Played Well
The hockey match between the Winnipeggers and the Rebels, yesterday afternoon, resulted in favor of the visitors by a score of 3 goals to 1. The Rebels put up a good game.
