What kid doesn't dream of an Energie Karlovy Vary bedroom? Source.
Sparta Prague visit Karlovy Vary.
HC Energie Karlovy Vary was founded in 1932. They came up to the Extraliga in 1997 and have been there every year since, except for 2017-18. They won the Extraliga in 2008-09, beating Slavia Prague in the finals. Their rink is KV Arena, which can seat 7,500.
Karlovy Vary is a spa town known in Hapsburg times as Karlsbad, located near the western point of Czechia. It takes its name from Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV (1316-1378), who was voted Největší Čech (Greatest Czech) in 2005.
These teams met once already this season on October 2nd, with the result Sparta 4 - 5 Karlovy Vary.
There's turmoil at Sparta Prague. Last season Sparta finished third in the regular season and made the playoff finals. Head coach Josef Jandač left after the final, replaced by Pavel Patera. So far this season after 19 games Sparta stand thirteenth out of fourteen. Patera has been fired and the team is being coached by the search committee.
Part of the problem is that last season's league scoring leader Filip Chlapík is no longer with Sparta. He left for HC Ambrì-Piotta in the Swiss league in the off-season. (Sparta and Ambrì-Piotta are both in this year's Spengler Cup.)
[But it's Karlovy Vary 1, Sparta Prague 5.]
