HK Poprad host HC Nové Zámky.
HC Nové Zámky was founded in 2011, though it claims the tradition of an earlier club that began in 1965. While working their way up through the Slovak lower leagues they also played three seasons in the Hungarian MOL Liga, and won that league in 2013-14. They made it into the top Slovak league in 2016 and finished sixth last season. They're nicknamed Býci, or the Bulls. Their logo incorporates a ferocious bull and a star fortification, which refers to the town's days as a frontier stronghold between the Hapsburg and Ottoman Empires.
The Býci have one Canadian on their squad, Marc-Olivier Roy, who has played around the AHL and ECHL, as well as Bratislava Capitals of the Austrian league, SaiPa (Finland), Karlskoga (Sweden) and Pusteral (Italy).
