New York came back from a 3 - 0 deficit to win 4 - 3 on February 4th. Source.

New York visit Ottawa. NY is fifth in the standings with 16 points, Ottawa sixth with 13.

New York play out of two arenas: the UBS Arena on Long Island, home of the NY Islanders, and the Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut, home of the AHL's Bridgeport Islanders. Fans of both the Metropolitan Riveters and Connecticut Whale can get invested in this club if they stretch their imaginations a bit geographically. The only fans who are seriously disadvantaged by this new league are the ones in Buffalo, who have lost their Beauts.

PWHL New York's roster is heavy on Canadians, with 13, supplemented by 7 Americans, 1 Swede, 1 Frenchwoman, and a Canadian who plays for Hungary internationally. (Taylor Baker was born in Toronto and played two seasons for MAC Budapest and one for Montreal Force.) The Swede is Johanna Fällman, who has played for Luleå, MoDo and Skellefteå. Chloé Aurard represented France at the 2023 Women's Worlds. New York also has a goalie named Post.

This season Ottawa play New York four times, and Toronto, Montreal, Boston and Minnesota five times. Toronto and Minnesota play each other four times, and the rest five. Boston and Montreal play each other four times, and the rest five. In 2024-25 each team will play 32 games, so no chance of a balanced schedule then either. (A balanced schedule would be, for instance, 30 games long, with each team playing three home games and three away games against each opponent.)

About Kirkcaldy United:

From the turn of the 20th Century until World War One, Kirkcaldy United was Raith Rovers' crosstown rival. The United played at Scott's Park which could accommodate 12,000 spectators. Their kit was a black and white striped jersey, white shorts, black socks. They were never in the Scottish League and did not play Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup, but the two did meet up in Fifeshire competitions.

PWHL: Ottawa at Boston

Ottawa visit Boston for a game postponed from January 8th. These two teams met two days ago when Ottawa won 4 - 2. Ottawa is fourth in the league with 13 points, Boston sixth with 12.

Boston have their home rink at the 6,500-seat Tsongas Centre in Lowell, Massachusetts. It's also home to the UMass Lowell River Hawks.

In their ten games Ottawa has scored first seven times. Boston has scored first twice.

In January the most frequent PWHL final score was 3 - 2. But in February half the games have ended 2 - 1. In 23 out of 27 PWHL games so far, any team that has scored three goals has won.

Emily Clark leads Ottawa scorers with 7 points. Boston's Megan Keller and Alina Müller have 9 points each.

Boston's captain Hilary Knight has played in four Olympics and thirteen Women's Worlds. She was a member of the Boston Blades, Boston Pride and Les Canadiennes de Montréal.

Despite being only five months long the PWHL schedule includes three breaks this season: January 29 to February 2 for the NHL All Star break, February 5 to 11 for the US/Canada Rivalry Series, and March 26 to April 17 for the Women's Worlds. Ottawa defender Savannah Harmon scored a hat trick at the PWHL 3-on-3 Showcase during the NHL All Star break. The US and Canadian national teams played three games in the Rivalry Series. Ottawa's Hayley Scamurra, Gabbie Hughes, Savannah Harmon and Becca Gilmore played for Team USA. Brianne Jenner, Emily Clark, Ashton Bell and Emerance Maschmeyer played for Canada. Canada won the series 4 games to 3.

Earlier Ottawa released Tori Howran and signed Emma Buckles. And now Ottawa has released fan favourite Mikyla Grant-Mentis and signed Rosalie Demers. Grant-Mentis was the PHF MVP for 2022-23.

Boston's Taylor Wenczkowski got a one-game suspension for a hit on Ottawa's Amanda Boulier in the January 24th game.

The league has seen its first player trade, Tapani and Cook to Boston and Jacques to Minnesota.

Champions Hockey League Final

It's the 2023-24 Champions Hockey League final: Genève-Servette versus Skellefteå. This is the first time to the final for both teams, and the first final for a Swiss club.

Genève-Servette made it here by finishing seventh in the regular season, having played Bolzano, Rouen, Pardubice, Innsbruck, Košice and Lukko. In the playoffs they beat Red Bull München, Växjö Lakers and Lukko.

Skellefteå played Rouen, Pardubice, Red Bull Salzburg, Innsbruck, Košice and Tappara to finish fifth in the regular season. They then advanced past Třinec, Färjestad and Vítkovice to reach the final.

These two have never met in the Champions Hockey League before. I don't think they have ever even played an exhibition game.

Skellefteå are currently fourth in the SHL. Genève-Servette are eighth in the Swiss National League.

Captain of Genève-Servette is Noah Rod who has spent his whole career with the club apart from a brief stint with San Jose Barracuda of the AHL. Skellefteå's captain is Oscar Möller, who played 87 games for the LA Kings.
