Bernt Notke installed his Danse Macabre in Lübeck Cathedral around 1463. Here it is in situ in a black and white photo taken before the RAF destroyed the place on Palm Sunday in 1943. You can see the entire painting laid out flat here. Notke also did a Danse Macabre for St Nicholas' Church in Tallinn, Estonia. That one survives, in living colour.
