On June 3, 1685, rebel forces of the Earl of Argyle landed near the Old West Kirk, repelled some mounted militia, stole supplies, and then sailed away. Read about it here. Map source.
Morton's pre-season friendlies get under way with a visit to Cappielow by Queen of the South. QoS proactively began their preseason last weekend with a 7 - 0 victory over Abbey Vale of the South of Scotland League. The close season is but a blink of an eye these days, yet it feels too long.
2024-25 will be the third consecutive season in League One for the Doonhamers. Last season they finished seventh, and the year before that fifth, so they may be settling in for a long residency. I would rather have them in the Championship than Queen's Park, if only for the Morton Castle Game.
QoS have signed former Morton midfielder Reece Lyon.
Morton have signed 23-year-old midfielder Nathan Shaw, ex of Blackpool, Bamber Bridge, AFC Fylde, Stockport County and most recently ICT. Also 19-year-old centre-back Dylan Corr, previously of Celtic B and Raith Rovers.
Darrah O'Connor has signed with York City.
The Morton women's team is now directly part of Greenock Morton FC. Before, it was under supporters' group Morton in the Community.
[Morton win 1 - 0 on a header by Lamar Reynolds.]
