East Fife supporters are sick of their team stinking out the group stage. Source.
The League Cup group stage begins. Morton are in Group F alongside St Johnstone, Alloa, East Fife and Brechin.
The object in Round One is to finish top of your group or else to be one of the three best second-place finishers. A win is worth three points, a shootout win two points, a shootout loss one point and a regulation time loss zero. Last year Morton made it to Round Two on the strength of nine points and a +7 goal difference.
East Fife host Morton.
These two last met in the 2020-21 Scottish Cup, Round Three, and Morton won. Robbie Muirhead is the last Morton player to have scored on East Fife.
East Fife have two former Morton players on their squad: Connor McManus (Morton 2017-18), and Alan Trouten (2003-04, 21 years ago). None of the present Morton crowd have played for East Fife.
East Fife have a better League Cup record than Morton: they won it in 1948, 1950 and 1954. Morton have never won the Cup. But East Fife have made it to Round Two only once since the group stage was reintroduced in 2016; Morton have done so three times.
Dougie Imrie has been Morton manager for two and a half years now, putting him fifth on the SPFL seniority list. All the players on the current Morton roster were brought in by him, except for Blues, Baird, Garrity and King.
Dick Campbell has been manager of East Fife since February. You may remember him from such dugouts as Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline, Brechin, Partick Thistle, Ross County, Forfar and most recently Arbroath. At 70 he is the oldest SPFL manager by eight years.
