1st period: Lynn Patrick opened the scoring with two goals in the first six minutes, his 19th and 20th of the season. Kirby MacDonald added another for the Rangers before Ralph Wycherley got the Americans on the board.

2nd period: Lorne Carr scored a pair for the Americans, but the Rangers got a goal apiece from Phil Watson and Muzz Patrick.

3rd period: Mac Colville got one for the Rangers, bringing the score to 6 - 3 Rangers.

The New York Americans ended the regular season in seventh place, the only team to miss the playoffs.

This was the last NHL game for Hall of Famers Hooley Smith and Charlie Conacher, as well as for journeymen Viv Allen, Lloyd Finkbeiner, Peter Slobodian and Jack Tomson.
