The All-German People's Party (Gesamtdeutche Volkspartie, or GVP) contested the 1953 West German election on a platform opposed to re-armament. Their campaign poster presented a stark choice: war or association football. So, which clubs did the GVP politicians support? See below.
Morton (6th) host Arbroath (10th).
Arbroath are in their fourth straight season in the Championship. If they can avoid relegation this year they'll equal Dumbarton's best run by a wee club in the Championship. However, after six games they are without a win.
Arbroath's Nicky Low has been loaned out to Kelty Hearts. Morton were after him, and the Greenock native has always wanted to play for his home team, but it was not in the interests of Arbroath to place him with a Championship rival. Instead Morton have signed midfielder Liam Grimshaw, formerly of Motherwell, Preston North End and Chesterfield.
Arbroath are managed by Dick Campbell who has been in the job since 2016.
Rather than schedule all of September 10th's postponed matches on a single midweek date, the SPFL is scattering them across the month of October.
[Morton 1 - 2 Arbroath. Goal by McGrattan.]

It's the Scottish Cup Round One.
The early rounds of the Scottish Cup have changed significantly over the past few years. An influx of former junior clubs has swamped the oddball collection of SFA members who used to treat this part of the tournament as their moment in the spotlight. In 2018 there were 19 teams in the cup prior to the entry of the Highland and Lowland leagues. This year there were 50. Covid measures forced the powers that be to experiment with doing away with replays and it turns out they like the change. So no more squeaking out a draw at home and getting an away trip to a big stadium in every round.
